Pronunciation of Cement in Dallas, TX USA

Cement is pronounced as seh Mint

Cement is pronounced as: Phonetic Spelling:[ seh Mint ]

Language:

American

Gender:

Female

Additional Information:

Although I grew up pronouncing it as "CEE-ment", I was constantly teased about it when I moved to NYC. After looking it up in Webster's (circa 1963), I realized that there is no pronunciation for "CEE-ment", period, as opposed to "the-A-ter", where is actually listed as a second pronunciation. I'd rather die than to pronounce THE-a-ter in such a manner. But CEE-ment? That'll be hard for me to get over. seh-MINT. Keep saying it, Southerners. It will become easy. Even sounds better. Damn those "Beverly Hillbillies." And their their pond, too.
