Our Origin Story
In 2008, our founder Pinky Thakkar moved from Mumbai to the heart of Silicon Valley. Despite being an engineer, she found herself facing a surprising challenge: the cultural nuances of pronunciation.
After famously mispronouncing the "J" in San Jose (not realizing it took the Spanish "H" sound), Pinky realized that names are more than just words—they are identities. Mispronouncing a name isn't just a linguistic error; it's a missed opportunity for connection.
What started as a personal project to help herself and her fellow expats soon grew into the internet's premier dictionary of name pronunciations.
