My grandfather's branch of the family changed the pronunciation of their last name to "sk ink". He was born in Burlington, Iowa, in the late 1800's. He had a family coat of arms and also a sword with Schenck van Nydeck on it. He said there was a castle with the family name in the Netherlands. My grandfather's name was Charles Plume Schenck. He was chief of staff at the Harris Hospital in Ft. Worth, Texas in the the 1960's. I have numerous cousins in Ft. Worth with the Schenck last name.
