How to pronounce Maestas?

The name originates in Asturia Spain where it was likely pronounced My-es-tas. There is a village named Mesta, and it's possible Juan, became Juan de Mesta (John from Mesta). The name was known in Spain sev. hundred years before it arrived in New Spain. In mid 1600's Juan de Mestas arrived in Santa Fe, NM with two sons. It was pronounced Maes-tas by the Americans and the spelling changed accordingly. At some point the Maes began to be pronounced as Mez leading to current pronunciation of Mez-tah-s.
