Pronunciation of Lian

My name is Lian, but over the years there have been many pronounciations. For starters "lee-en" "Lie-ann" and also the never forgiving "Liam". I am told that it is originally from China and used as either a male or female. My Mum doesn't actually know to much about the name either! She informed me that she just like the spelling of it as it made it sound prttier and not hard as the way "Leanne" is spelt. I was just wondering if anybody could help? I know I may have written this in the wrong place!?, but I am just intrigued into where this name originates from and what its actual meaning is?
