Originated in Gabon and has spread to nearby countries. It is a perennial shrub growing 10-20m tall that bears fruit and flowers. Used by the Bwiti; a spiritual practice based around the use of the Iboga root bark. Because Iboga allows an individual to see the truth about anything related to them the Bwiti use it as a right-of-passage to allow their children to learn about creation and to leave behind any childhood beliefs that do not serve their greater good. Also, used for detoxification and psycho-spiritual exploration.
