Type of Name:
Last Name
Language:
Lebanese/Arabic
Meaning:
"lover of freedom and liberty"
Additional Information:
My family hails from Zahle in Lebanon. A relative of mine believes that the original pronunciation was likely harrow with rolled r's and "har" rhyming with "far", followed by a long 'o' with an accent on the first syllable as it is now. But for as long as my family has been in the US (they arrived in the late nineteenth century) Herro has rhymed with "marrow" as in "bone marrow". I learned at a family event decades ago that "Herro" means "lover of freedom and liberty." But I have no evidence to submit that this is indeed the case. It's from my memory.
