Pronunciation of Eileen in singapore

Hmm.. My name is Eileen and i thought it is pronounced as ' E-Leen ' and even my parents call me that. And i hate it when a stranger or a teacher mispronounced it as ' Eye-Leen '. I would ve pissed off saying that Eileen is a common name and hkw.they didn't come across a person named Eileen before. But my parents calls me ' E-Leen ', is it true that it's suppossed to be pronounced as ' Eye-Leen ' ?

Additional Information:

My mom pronounced this as E-leen when she named me. It was later on when my English teachers told me that it should be pronouced as Eye-leen. Seems I only get called E-leen in Asia. All my friends in Europe and UK call me Eye-leen. I have since decided to keep to Eye-leen as this is a more widely accepted pronounciation. :)

Pronunciation of Eileen

a person I know spells it the same as I do - EILEEN - but she just informed me that it is pronounced A (long A) Lean. She happens to be of Hispanic lineage. Would that affect the sound of "long A" instead of "Eye" at beginning of name?

I also know a person who pronounces her name "Eye Lean" BUT spells it Aileen. She informed me that Eileen is the Irish form and Aileen is the English form.

I was also told or read somewhere that it is a form of the woman's name, Helen.

Just curious

Unfortunately in Asia, we read it as it is spelled..E-leen. My mom gave me this name but pronounced it as E-leen. It was later on when my English teachers told me that it was Eye-leen. I have since adopted the pronounciationEye-Leen as it is more universally recognised :)

I'm from the U.S. My dad named me this, and pronounced it with long E's: E-leen. I've considered changing the spelling to make it more phonetically correct. It's like how some people say "either" with a long E or a long I. Learned over time that I can tell a lot about people by how they handle hearing, learning and saying my name. =)
