Americanized form of the Spanish name Bonita?

When Facebook and Google became popular I started looking for anyone else named Bonida. My Mother always told me she saw the name in a wedding announcement in the Sunday paper, and liked it. I looked for that person, Bonida Dollins from Paragould, Ar., without much success. Then one day the name Bonida Dollins turned up in a search and I communicated with her about the original Bonida, I learned she was the niece of my Bonida Dollins. She also says she believes it was true that the name was misspelled originally when registered! This had occurred to me that possibly the name was misspelled in the paper all those years ago and Mom didn't know, LOL!
