The town, 36km to the north-east of Adelaide in South Australia, was created in the 1840s by the South Australian Company on land it had bought from Randell. How it came to be chosen by officials of the South Australian Company in London in 1841 for the name of a new town in the Adelaide Hills is a mystery.
